Can't print Quicken check register

I'm using Quicken Home and Business 2009 and it seems to work fairly well with one exception. I can't print all or any part of the check register. When I click Print the printer icon appears briefly on the tool bar as usual, but then vanishes and nothing comes out of the printer. (it's as if the print job was canceled.) Every now and then the print job seems to make it to the printer, a single page or two will be spit out, but then it hangs up.

I'm using a PC with Windows XP.

I had this same problem with a previous version of QHB -- 2006. The print function worked fine for a long time and then abruptly stopped. I thought an upgrade would correct it, but that hasn't happened.

Any ideas as to where I should look to solve this issue? Is this a characteristic of Quicken or could it be an issue with printer drivers?

Are you talking about having the account open to the "register" ("Transactions" tab), clicking "Report" (in the register menu), then "Register report"? Or with the account open to the register, clicking File > Print Transactions?

Are you saying that this worked for a long time in Q2006, then stopped working in Q2006, and has never worked in any Quicken version you've used since then?

Does this happen with any other reports? And if you are talking about the File > Print Transactions report, what happens if you open the Portfolio tab and click File > Print Portfolio? Does that print successfully?

What does a print "Preview" look like? Is the report correct when it displays on your monitor?

What specific printer are you using?

What happens when you print to a PDF file?
