Pole Display Issues??? :(

Today I configured the opos driver to allow for my Verifone 1000 se pin pad...that worked fine, but then my Logic Control pole display went out. When I say went out, it is still configured in the opos, because I tested and it was successful, I changed nothing...but the pole display constantly blinks Logic Control POS Display...if I ring up a sale, it stops blinking, but won't show what I ring...when the system is down, it just says Logic Control POS Display??? I did the same configuration the another register, and I had no problem at all...I'm not sure if I did something wrong, or the damn thing just went on the blink...but I have a feeling it's working because when MS POS is off, it still reads Logic Control POS Display??? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Vince,

Try shutting down the computer, unplugging the power to the display, plug it right back in, turn back on the computer.

If that works, try plugging in your display into your battery backup on the battery side (you _do_ have a battery backup on each machine, right?). The display has a little computer in it and if there is a power out, surge, dip, they sometimes lose their brains. Powering off, then on again, resets and fixes it most of the time.

That would have been way too easy...my life is much more complicated, any other ideas? PS Yes I have a battery back up...hopefully it still works :)

Vince,

Complicated ;-)

Did you by accident pick the same COM port as the display when you set up the 1000?

Does your display use a COM port on the back of your computer or USB?

Are you using a separate COM port for each? Most computers only come with one nowadays. A 9 pin male connector on the computer end.

If the display is USB, the COM port should be COM 5 and the 1000 COM1 if only one COM port on the back.

I'm going to bed finally.

Just going to bed...long day wow. Anyhow, I have a bunch of USB ports on the back of my computer, and no serial, so I am using converters...one for the pin pad and one for the pole display. I called up logic, and they can't seem to get the pole to work either. All the tests and prompts seem to come back negative. They think along with me that there is nothing wrong with the pole display, and since we plugged it into many different usb ports, it's not that...can't seem to figure out what in the heck happened...when I uninstal the pinpad, I still don't get anything for the Logic display. Something very odd has happened. Anything other advice? :)

The last time I asked my distributor if it's ok to use USB Logic PD's instead of Serial, the fellow said they have lots of problems with them coming back. He suggested I stick with serial.

Problem is I don't have any serial ports on my computer, everything is usb...I have 6 different usb slots...and the thing of it is, it was working just fine...I have tested it now on 3 different computers, all through the same devise, and I think I just fried the damn pole display. Who knows?

I tried using converter's a couple of times with different devices and have had nothing but problems, it might be best if you went out and bought a 2 or

4 port Serial PCI card.

Vince,

Try this simple thing, uninstall the 1000, power down everything and restart and see if the display works. If it does, then USB->serial port converter for the 1000 isn't going to work out. What could be happening is that the converter is drawing too much power through the USB hub and not sending enough power to the display.

Personally I would put in at least one serial/COM port. CompUSA sell a serial card with 2 ports on it for ~$45

Just make sure what type of card you need. It will need an internal connection slot, probably a PCI card, if the machine is less the 5 years old. I think you have a Dell or HP. Go to their website, find your model and see what kind of slots you have open and what type they are. Your brother should be able to tell you too.

There are difference between machines, Buy exactly what you need, ISA, PCI, PCx. The type is more important than the number of ports, but you need at least 1.

I could agree in regards to going out and buying a PCI card...I did disconnect the pinpad, along with the card swipe reader, and the pole display is still not working...I hooked it up to two different computers, one where I needed to download the usb driver, and I still got the same problem. Tech support for the pole told me to try and download the usb driver, and if that doesn't work, hook it up direct, to another computer with a serial port...that is the next test. My thing is this is what has happened to register #2...register #1 is configured the same exact way, but instead of the pole display being PD3000 it's a PD6000...not a problem with that one. Works great, and it has the same hook up. We shall see, I might have some how fried the pole display. Thank you very much guys, I appreciate all of the feedback, it has helped.

I recently had a similar problem. The pole display stopped working when I updated the touch screen driver and application software. The touch screen connects to the pc via usb. The touch screen software included a serial driver that grabbed the com port the pole display needed. The pole display and the touch screen worked fine after I removed the touch screen serial driver.

good luck.

What type of touchscreen was it? We had an issue with a ScanPal2 unit that would not connect via serial on a machine that has a touchscreen. We moved it to one of the backoffice machines and it worked.

Rob, The touch screen was from 3M. I have had similar experience with a ScanPal2. In my view, the common cause is that a device driver is grabbing the COM1: or COM2: port ahead of the device driver of the intended hardware.

Sorry it took me a while to get back, I have not been to the customer site until 1/22 pm to confirm the touchscreen brand.
