Pole Display Logic Controls USB write error

has anybody encountered problems with using USB pole displays? I have been installing Logic Controls PD3900 USB pole displays with RMS. These have been encountering problems causing RMS to lock up. RMS has a small message window that pops up and says "Write Error", you try and click OK or CANCEL but the message will not go away. The RMS software stays locked up. You have to do a CTRL + ALT + DEL and shutdown RMS by doing an end task.

I have been able to recreate the problem by openning RMS. While RMS is open in the POS screen, I will unplug the Pole Display. RMS immediately locks up and shows the "Write Error" message. I have set device manager to not allow the computer to turn off the USB ports to save power. I have tried putting the Pole Displays onto Battery Backups with the computer. I have tried using the manufacturers OPOS drivers and the Microsoft OPOS drivers. I still get the same "Write Error".

Does anybody have any Ideas of what could be causing this problem? I have not experienced any problems with the Serial Pole Displays. Seems it is only the USB pole displays.

It's happening at 5 of my customers.

I have been talking to Microsoft and Logic Control about this issue for years. No answers yet.

However, I might can give you some tips.

The easiest way is, if you still have warranty for the pole display, replace it to serial pole display. No problem with serial period.

If you can not get serial one, try to eliminate your USB devices, or seperate pole display through USB hub. USB hub provide solid 5v power to usb devices, so your pole display won't get interrupted.

you are welcome to send me an email if you needed help.

Well it is either an issue with the Pole Displays, or with the RMS software. However, I have about 4 different customer locations where this error is occuring. This is with about a total of about 8-10 usb pole displays.

It seems this problem all started occur> I too have been having the same issue. We have 8 lanes and two of them

It seems possible that the USB port is interferred by the receipt printer. When the printer is drawing heavy current, the USB link is lost and driver is reloaded while RMS cannot handle the change correctly.

We have several PD3900U devices installed. The last two have had the same problems you're describing and I was never able to resolve it. The others are still working fine. We switched to Epson USB Line displays and have so far had no problems.

We have a different problem with the sme pole display. Maybe one of you can help.

Since the original install (10 months ago) the pole display will stop scrolling and lock up. I get a 'write' task on the task bar and have to re-boot RMS POS to make it work again. Then....... our re-seller's service guy worked on it and now it seems to work fine EXCEPT that it won't scroll at all..... eventhough it is set to scroll.

Sounds like there is a conflict linked to the scrolling function moreso than just the display itself. The service guy is trying to locate software to completely re-install the pole display. Not sure why that's difficult.
