Download problem vs Q2005 Q2008

I just loaded Q2008 and used it for a week or so, instead of Q2005, but can't make my first download from Bank of America because "they" think I have Q2005. (I don't know if it's Quicken or the bank). The start menu in XP shows Q2008. I am also informed that they will stop downloading to this version on April 27.

I think I see why Intuit thinks I have Q5. I attempted once to download using Q5 and they informed me I needed Q8. Now I have Q8, but because I didn't buy it from them for $49 it looks like they're going to refuse me until I send them $49. You don't have to love Intuit, but you have to respect them.

John,

2 things!

  1. Q2008 will sunset on April 27, 2011. See below (lifted from the Quicken Support Website)

Information for Quicken 2008 for Windows Customers As of April 27, 2011, in accordance with the Quicken discontinuation policy, online services1 and live technical support are no longer be available for Quicken 2008 for Windows users.

These services include online bill pay; downloading financial data from your bank, credit union, credit card, brokerage, 401(k), or mutual fund accounts; downloading stock quotes, news headlines, and other financial information into Quicken; and uploading portfolio information from Quicken to Quicken.com.

Here are the dates older versions of Quicken were retired:

.Quicken 2008 (Win) -- April 27, 2011 .Quicken 2007 (Win) - April 30, 2010 .Quicken 2006 (Win) - April 30, 2009 .Quicken 2005 (Win) - April 30, 2008 .Quicken 2004 - April 30, 2007 .Quicken 2003 - April 25, 2006 .Quicken 2002 - April 19, 2005 .Quicken 2001 - April 19, 2005 .Quicken 2000 - May 18, 2004 .Quicken 98 and 99 - April 20, 2004

I have no idea why you would update a 6 year version with a 3 year old version when Intuit has a 3 year sunset policy. Quicken 2011 is readily available most anywhere. Prices that I am aware of are:

From Intuit - $59.99 From Staples - $59.99 From Sam's Club - $39.88

All of the above prices are either "Box" or "Download". Personally, I like boxed versions of software.

Your issue should not have anything to due with Intuit thinking you have Q2005. When you update, you update. Intuit doesn't care where you bought your software, as long as it's "genuine".

  1. Look within this newsgroup, you will find that a number of people are having problems downloading from B of A. The specific thread that I have in mind is shown below, but my recollection is that there have been others. You will have to search. I don't bank at B of A, so I can't help you.

"More Bank of America problems?"

Thank you for your detailed answer. I guess I'm not as familiar as I should be with Quicken's sunset policy. Nevertheless I was inquiring via Q8 and they're refusing me because it's Q5. I don't recall if I registered it when I loaded it, but it's very likely that they would have refused to register it, inasmuch as it would constitute a revenue-free transaction. (And you know Intuit and their policy of disdain for revenue-free transactions).

That's the way I look at it too, but they came right out and said "you have Q5; You need Q8".

Good evening Mr. and Mrs. North America and all the ships at sea let's go to press! This just in!! I just opened Quicken and stared blankly at the screen (after forging my way past the gentle bullying screens) when all of a sudden I noticed a bunch of red check marks up and down! Intuit or the bank have somehow capitulated and and downloaded my check data. I thank them for that favor. It appears the bank agrees with most of my transactions! That's great! Having never used this feature, does this mean I can delay entering my checks and let them do the work and fix them later? It sounds like it could be very useful. It has been interesting. Thank you for your responses.

You *NEED* to pay attention to sunsetting.

As Richard said, as of 4/27/11, Q2008 will no longer act as an online "go-between" between you and your financial institutions. It doesn't make sense to go to Q2008.

I suspect the reason you're being told that you need to upgrade to Q2008 is that when Q2005 sunsetted, Q2008 was the latest release.

Something like that. I'm on board now. I found a number of glaring errors in my initial download. A check I sent out Tuesday was returned to me Saturday because of a wrong ZIP code, yet Quicken had checked it off even though the bank had never seen it. (this is a check I write every month). And in the last week or two I entered three very large deposits and only one was checked off. One of these I had not yet entered into Quicken. The bank's ledger gives credit for all three. Of course the bank has very little to go on. Still there must be some explanation for these glitches. Due diligence is needed.

Yes. Quicken (usually) does only what you tell it to do. One thing to make sure things go "right" is to never use the "accept all" choice for downloads. Make sure things match correctly. I do that by entering the transactions manually, or by entering repeating transactions. Then the downloads from the FI's are matched properly. Only occasionally do I make mistakes, and the FI mistakes are easily caught (and very, very few).

I don't get it - ALL your postings lead me to think you are a total moron, and yet you appear to be a college level rocket scientist...

So go figure - calculus is easy... but working with Quicken and TurboTax isn't ? How do I access the tax forms ? Why is my old program from 2005 & 2008 not downloading ?

oh please................. just stop -

Your responses are truly brilliant! I would like to call you Mr. Meathead but that might be a bit presumptuous considering our brief acquaintanceship-but I have a strong gut feeling I know you intimately-and perhaps we shouldn't be meeting like this. Anyway, I have just installed Q10 after Q8 after Q5 and did a massive conversion and am finally able to see the register, which was brought about by either a) doing a cold reboot, or b) pressing on that teeny-weeny little down arrow on the right-hand side of the Bill and Income Reminders (of course, silly!) I registered my installation of Q10 which was acknowledged by Intuit. Now I still can't download because it is pointed out (and they also point out that they have pointed out previously) that Q5 is outdated. But I just got through registering Q10 and they know it and still the reject message refers to Q5! A cold boot did not help. Nevertheless they did download a bunch of checkmarks to very current (yesterday) transactions that could not possibly have happened yet and failed to check off two very large deposits. At the least I need to make them recognize that I have a new Q10 going So I can keep fiddling with this download thing.
