How can I keep notes in Quicken?

May 01, 2011 1 Replies

I am the treasurer for a very small (11 unit) townhouse association in VA. We are self managed and pay our own bills. I am using Quicken Deluxe to track our spending and it works pretty well because we are so simple. Frankly, Quickbooks would be overkill.

I want to make sure I keep notes on how I do the postings and why I do it a particular way in case someone else needs to step in. I would like to keep the notes in the Quicken file itself. I can put notes on individual postings but I have yet to see a notes page. Right now, I keep it in Word and upload to a common file site.

Any thoughts? Thanks Mr. Jan

IMNSHO it is likely to be better to have a separate "croak book" for your successor in which you detail how and why you do things. Of course, using the attachments feature, you could add notes of almost any kind to individual transactions. The drawback is that it might be difficult to get a nice overview from such a fragmented set of notes. Nothing would prohibit you from writing paragraphs in your croak book, and using the copy feature from Word, paste those as attachments with the paste from clipboard feature. (I use this now to "link" sort of to the confirming emails from Amazon and other on-line vendors).
