Pre-entering recurring memorized transaction groups with Q2005?

I recently switch from Q1999 to Q2005 and am now ready to enter all anticipated transactions for the comming year, so I can plan cashflow. With Q1999, I had transaction groups (monthly on the 15 and 30th, weekly, bi-weekly, etc.) that I could enter in quick succession by just hitting Ctrl+J then Enter repeatedly until the whole year's worth of transactions were created. Irregular transactions were then entered and the summary report for the year became my budget. I could see well in advance when I should plan to top-up my chequing account in order to maintain a minimum balance, for example.

Q2005 doesn't seem to have this capability; there seems to be no way to make the transactions show up except at a specified time before the transaction is due. In fact, I can find no way to associate memorized transactions with specific groups. Am I missing something, or is this really the case? If so, is it possible to re-install Q1999 and do a restore using the latest file created with Q2005?

I'm surprised the conversion didn't convert your Scheduled Transaction Groups.

[The graph below the Scheduled transaction list will show the future effects of scheduled transactions (without them being "Entered" in registers) - as should the Cash Flow Forecast.]

To create a new Scheduled Transaction Group:

Cash Flow > Scheduled Transaction List > Create New > Options > Group

You can't open a Quicken file created in a later version of Quicken; so Q1999 can't open a file created by Q2005.

Thanks for the reply, John. (I've been most grateful for your assistance in the distant past, BTW.) The groups did get converted but when I began entering them for 2011 by selecting the first in the table and pressing Enter, that group disappeared from the list. The others on the list have no transactions selected. I will have to re-built the groups, I guess. Previously, I had split memorized transactions (e.g., MasterCard) to have expense items like Shelter/Heating, Transportation/Fuel, etc., the amounts determined from last year's average expenditures over the payment period.

Once I rebuild the groups, can I pre-enter them for the entire year, as before?

I never had any Quicken version earlier than Q2000, so I'm not sure how the process worked in Q1999. But you can enter scheduled transactions whose due date is in the future, in Q2005. But I believe you will have to click Enter (plus at least one more click) for each due date for each group transaction (unless you make the scheduled group transactions auto-enter and temporarily change your system clock to Dec 31, 2011 ... which may have other, unwanted, ramifications).

Thanks, John. I'm going to work on it today. That's what I did in the past -- click Enter then OK (os something like that) for each transaction group multiple times, until they were all entered for the year. Tedious, but being able to see the year's cashflow in advance was extremely helpful to managing our money. I'll report back once I get it done (or give up).

Best tidings of the season!

Well I got it done using just scheduled transactions. The group definitions are supposed to be just for financial transactions but sometimes they worked for regular transactions and sometimes they didn't. When they didn't, it was because the desired transaction did not appear in the list from which to choose, when defining the group. Thankfully, this is an annual chore, Thanks again for your helpfulness, John.
