Pro-rating budget amounts

I use Quicken 2006, and find that if I enter a budget amount of $1000 for a category, for all 12 months, a monthly budget report says the budget amount is no longer $1000. The report says the budget amount is an amount which is derived from the date of the month. That is, if the month (November) is 30 days long, and the day of the report is the 20th, then I am 2/3 of the way into the month. The budget amount is no longer $1,000, it is 2/3 of that, or $666.67. Tomorrow, it will say something different. My budget is monthly, and FIXED. How do I not see sliding budget amounts, sensitive the date?

Thanks. - Phil

I do not think you can do what you want. Quicken assumes you will spend evenly over the course of the month.

You may want to consider this approach: (set up a new budget to experiment) Set up your budget as if it were monthly Put your annual budget amount in the 1st month of the year. All other months are zero Your reports for the 1st month of the year will show up like you described. After that, it will show your annual budget and what you have left to spend for the year! Jim

I think you can get something like what you want by customising the date range of report to be through the end of the month (or choose "current month" if you only want to see this month). That way, the "budgeted" amounts will be the whole month's budget. The "actual" amounts shown in the report will be everything entered in your register, including any future transactions with dates before the end of this month.

It it's any consolation, this is not unique to Q06. It's always been this way.

I've never liked it, so what I do is display the report as of month end. Even if today is Nov 26, I specify the date as Nov 30. Now I get the full month's budget for each expense.
