Q 2007 H&B pros & cons, so far...

This is in comparison to Q2004, so some may have appeared in Q2005 or Q2006, which I skipped.

Pros:

- Still imports QIF to non-FI accounts such as Invoice.

- Seems to load faster than Q 2004 with large data file(s).

- Reduced data file(s) size by 20% on 36 MB data upgrade.

- Online updates seem more efficient and run in background.

Cons:

- Hint window over splits now truncates category/class and has to be scrolled if more than 10 items. Dumb.

- Installer won't allow multiple versions of Quicken on a computer.

- Forced uninstall of prior version (Q2004) left 66 files (2.4 MB) in old program folder.

- I don't like the new color scheme, and can't find any way to change it. Didn't Q used to have a color scheme selection?

- Totals listed in Account Bar do not update until the entire One-Step-Update is complete.

These two appear to be the same con. And the implication is not quite true.

You should be able to reinstall your previous version after you install Q2007 if your previous version is Q2005 or earlier.

And one user reported finding an Intuit kb article (now not available) that described a method to skip the uninstall process during an installation: the user said this worked in Q2006 (which also defaults to uninstalling previous versions).

As I understand the explanation, you hold down CTRL + SHIFT while clicking the first "Next" button you encounter in the installation process. This is said to skip the uninstall portion of the process. Someone with Q2007 is welcome to test to see if this still works as it is said to have worked for Q2006.

Quicken always seemed to have little problems that would annoy, or even eliminate functionality if you had multiple versions installed. Oddly, in my experiences with Q2006, the problems that used to occur with multiple versions installed are not usually as frequent or as serious. One reason, I think, is that Q2006 has separate .ini files for each data fileset.
