Q05 - Displaying Errors after Online Update

Quicken always used to display any download errors - failure to connect with a server, bad password, etc. - after a one-step update. I just realized that it doesn't do that any more, at least on my installation.

Is there a way to turn it back on? Quicken 2005 Deluxe.

If the Online Update Summary is truely not displaying when there are download errors, then I would suspect some kind of corruption. As far as I know, the only options are to always show the summary following a download, or to only show the summary when there are errors during the download. If you are only seeing the summary when there are errors and want to see it always, you can pull up the summary from the Online menu and uncheck the box at the bottom. Otherwise I suppose you could try Validating your data.

I'd just like to confirm what Walt reported. This is happening to me too. I have it set to display only when there are errors and it stopped doing that after working correctly for quite some time. This is hard to notice as normally, well at least for me, there aren't any errors. Recently in setting up my new business checking account there were errors for a while until my new account finally got set up properly at the bank. That's when I noticed that it was no longer working.

I validated my database - errors were reported. However now it's just a hit or miss proposition as to whether or not the next download or downloads would have an error...

Walt, were you running R4 when you experienced the problem?

Andrew; are you using Q2005 also? Were you using R4 when you noticed this problem?

I am just curious since I don't think I am having the problem (though if it is intermittant, I'm not totally sure I would notice); but I have never upgraded to R4.

John and Andrew,

I updated to R5 and discovered this problem both this morning. I also rattled the problem loose, so now it's OK. I can't tell whether it was what I did or the R5 update that fixed it.

Andrew, here's what I did. Maybe you can run through the same steps and get a better handle.

  1. First check if R5 fixed the problem: Do an Online Update of all the accounts, with a bogus PIN in one of them. My result was that the Update Summary with the error message did not display.

  1. Display Online | Online Update Summary to view that there really was an error.

  2. Go to the register of the account with the bogus PIN (or another account - using a bad PIN several times in the same account could lock out logins). Click Download Transactions and download from just that account, with a bogus PIN. My result was that the error screen did display.

  1. Repeat the Online Update of all the accounts. My result is that now the Update Summary with the error does display as it should.

I see three possibilities: R5 fixed it; doing the single account download somehow reset a bad flag somewhere that was preventing the error display; or it's all random and the problem will continue to pop up.

Q2005 Home & Business - R4 I believe. There is an update (R5?) but it won't apply to my Quicken. States I need to close all my other applications and try again. When are software companies gonna stop using that silly excuse! I suspect after I reboot (Welcome to Windows!) I'll be able to apply the update. I am just curious since I don't think I am having the problem (though if it is intermittant, I'm not totally sure I would notice); but I have never upgraded to R4.

Exactly. This is hard to notice...

I can't. See previous post... :-(

All this would require that I step into a role of supporting, or at least debugging Quicken problems. I gave that up years ago. Now, if I fix it for myself I'm done. Though I must admit, I may do this anyway... :-) .

I'm a gluten for punishment I guess... OK I rebooted, updated to R5, updated all accounts changing one pin to be invalid. No error message was displayed.

Verified. There was an error.

My result was that the error screen did not display. Did Online: Online Update Summary and verified that were was indeed still an error.

Argh, this is gonna cost me... Same problem. No display of the error. :-(

No, you're a fine citizen. OK, I'll keep an eye open on my end and maybe try a few more times to see if I really shook the problem loose.

So far it's looking random. Anyway, I reported it on the Intuit web site, so I'm sure it'll be fixed soon.

I forced an error again today. It is broken again.

Too bad Quicken is so good. If it were bad, it wouldn't be so bad when it was bad.

Since the r5 update came out Q05 (Premier) has displayed the update summary screen on every update it has done even though I've checked don't display on no error. It displays even when it's just updated security prices without going for Fin. Inst. account info.

It is complaining about not getting prices for symbols that are in the security list but not on the watch list.

I haven't applied the r5 update yet. I will probably apply it later today mainly in the hope that it will restore the correct operation.

Very annoying.

There was an error on a credit card download yesterday, and it displayed OK. Random? Bad on brokerage accounts but OK on credit cards?
