Q2006

Anyone heard when Q2006 will be available and what will be included in this version? What is new and what will be fixed?

That's a good one! You must want to start complaining early.

Actually, I am not looking to complain. I am looking for answers to the questions I have asked.

Q2005 was released 8/04. IIRC, that's the earliest in the year I've seen "next year's" Q released. I think September has been the usual timeframe for a new release.

AFAIK, Intuit has not announced a release date or "product enhancements".

It appears that Money 2006 will be out in less than 10 days; don't know what impact, if any, that will have on Intuit and the release of Q2006.

Have they ever announced anything about the new product itself before announcing its release? (Not a rhetorical question; I don't know, but would be surprised if they have).

Not that I can recall.

Yes, about the same time as new car models will show up in showrooms (prior to their first recalls ;).

It was a joke, son.

Just heard from Intuit: Q2006 is due for release in early August. Sounds like the usual.

Oh goodie, Quicken addict and early adopter that I am. :-) I wish I could wait for all the specials, but I have to have the new version the moment it hits the stores. Now I am slightly reformed in that I no longer buy the download (typically available before the boxed version appears in stores), but the minute those boxes are out, I just have to have it in my hands. Sick, am I not? ;-)

I can see that took a lot of restraint. :)

You and those like you are trailbreakers, Margaret; the rest of us need you. :)

Yes, you are a sicko..... ;-) But we need you to let us know the problems that will occur.

Do you buy Turbo Tax? If so, waiting until TT is shipped can save a ton on Q. I buy TT Deluxe every year from Staples when it first ships. For the past

3 years, they have had a special deal for a week or two where they discount QD to a price equal to the rebate. Each year I get a free copy (after rebate) of QD (along with NAV, TT State and, usually, a shredder).....................

Yes, I did the same in about December. I am thinking of installing Q2005D in the next couple of months.

No, I stopped using Turbo Tax the year they instituted their Macromedia copy-protection scheme. I realize they did away with it the following year, but by then I'd switched to TaxAct. Even though it doesn't import from Quicken data, I don't do much investment trading, so I have little to input by hand. TaxAct is very inexpensive and works great. Each year when I e-file my returns, I order the next year's version at a reduced rate, and they don't bill my credit card till the final software is available for download. $17 includes federal, one federal e-file, and one state. I pay an additional $7.95 to e-file my state return. Not a bad deal. And IIRC, most of the deals are for Quicken Deluxe, while I use Premier.

So don't try to convince me to wait for a deal -- I'm one addict that can't be reformed! (to my budget's dismay) ;-) I guess this is not a terribly expensive vice though. ;-)

Margaret

So Money 2006 comes out in July 2005. Maybe Intuit should go one-up on MS and introduce Quicken 2007 this year...

Quicken is usually accompanied by a bunch of retailer promotions during it's first month or so of release. I usually go for the cash-back or gift card rebates at OfficeMax, OfficeDepot, or Staples. I don't take much stock in the free personal shredder that OfficeMax often bundles though. I used the TurboTax tie-in this past year to buy the Q upgrade for Dad...makes for a nice cheap Father's Day present... ;-)

Yes! Last year I got QP2005 at Staples and got a $20 gift card, which I promptly used toward an inkjet cartridge for my printer. So I must've at least waited a few days last year.... :-)

I'll probably be racing you to the storefront when it comes out. Insane? Definitely... I think I've upgraded almost every time since 1992...maybe skipped one or two along the way...

"I think I've upgraded almost every time since 1992..."

Any reason, in particular?

For a large number of people, the upgrade to Q2005 was somewhat "forced," the result of Intuit's Sunset Policy.

I'd imagine, that given a choice, those people would have been more than happy keeping their "old" versions.

My first Quicken was version 3 for DOS. I used to close out my files every year, and I see that I have data files back through 1990. (I convert them to newer versions every few years in case I have to refer to something old.) I've upgraded Quicken *every* year since. Can't remember when I switched from DOS to Windows versions though. Ah, the memories. :-) I'm pretty happy with QP2005, best upgrade in a while, IMO. But that won't stop me from grabbing QP2006 as soon as I can. :-)

Margaret
