Q2006 Activation

Thinking of going back to Quicken and was hoping someone can tell me what the activation requirement is? Also if known yet, what is the activation requirement for this years TTax? Thanks!

What do you mean, the activation "requirement?"

Other than paying for the software? (No sarcasm intended.)

Is there a serial number or some form of Internet activation required from the Intuit website as is required by Windows XP?

I just upgraded to Quicken 2006 (from 2005) within the last 15 minutes. There was no such activation requirement/

Great thanks!

Q has *never* required activation. They were cranky about registering the software, but not about activation or serial numbers...

No. And if you want to avoid having to register each time you install, register the first copy. Then locate QUICKEN.INI and copy it to the additional machines after installing Quicken. (On WinXP, you'll find it in C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Intuit\Quicken\Config.) This file contains the registration info as well as most other settings. There's another QUICKEN.INI file in C:\WINDOWS, but it' tiny and has nothing to do with registration.

Margaret

My question pertains to an experience related to TTax, where they 'hid' things on an inaccessible portion of your harddisk.

Does Quicken do any of this?

I have installed both Q06 and TTax 05. There is no evidence of any egregious activation scheme or hidden data on disk sectors. The only anomoly is with Q06 which requires registration in order to synchronize financial data. This is done for security purposes. If you don't use this feature, there is a key combination to stop the registration nag. There is also another key combination to bring it back if you decide to register later in order to get notification of upgrades.
