Q2006 graphs

OK, this is so stupid but I can't figure out how to generate a historical plot of my investments. I want to see a line graph of my portfolio value over the last year but all I can get are pie charts which are only snapshots in time.

Use to be one click. I've just spent 30 minutes and not a clue.

Ideas?

Thanks

The Net Worth report/graph offers a bar graph and intervals from weekly to yearly.

yeah - I use the Net Worth "report" and then print the "graph" which I setup using the "custom dates".

Just updated mine to go back to 2004 -> 2008/today to see where my "current" net worth landed...... between 2004 & 2005 -

But I don't want a bar chart. IIRC, Q used to do line charts that showed trends.

I don't know of any versions of Quicken that produce a plain line graph for investment value. I looked in Q2002, Q2005 and Q2008.

How does a bar graph not show trends?

Sorry, I mispoke. I can select any individual security, and see a row of bars (value) and a line superimposed (cost basis). When I try to do the same for my entire portfolio, all I get is a pie chart with allocations. I couldn't give a rat about allocation...that's what my finiancial advisor worries about. I just want to see how my total investments are doing over the last year and I can't.

HELP

When I select net worth all I get is one bar. Assets stacked on top and liabilities on the bottom. Not even close to what I want. I want a date RANGE along the bottom, and portfolio and cost basis both presented over time. Can't get that...

It's clear to me that you have not made even the remotest attempt to get the result you seek.

If you actually read what I wrote (and what you quoted in your post) you can't help but notice that the Net Worth report/graph allows you to select "intervals" ... intervals other than "one" interval, "intervals" (as I said; from a week to a year).

If you are unwilling to read the responses you get, and unwilling to lift a single finger to help yourself ... you do not deserve any help.

Yes, you did.

How many reports/graphs did you actually try.

Did you try the Portfolio Value vs Cost Basis report/graph?

When I follow John's instructions, I get the following:

formatting link
I have erased the vertical axis tick marks to protect the innocent (greedy ;) )

To recap:

select Reports, Net Worth.

  1. Select Customize, Clear All Accounts, Mark Investment Accounts Only, (No other asset, liability, cash, etc accounts will be included in the graph.) click OK

  1. Click Hide Report. Now only the graph is showing.

  2. Goto "Date Range" and select what you want. My example uses "Last 12 months"

  1. Goto "Interval" and select your choice. My example uses "half month"

  2. Save the report

Please tell me (other then pointing out the net worth graph) where you actually tried to help? I actually went to that graph and am embarrassed to say that I completely overlooked the interval drop down box. I kept clicking on customize whci gave me nothing of value. My point was in previous version I didn't have to do that; I could just select my portfolio and it was there. I assumed it still was and was just missing it.

I appreciate your effort if not your rudeness...sorry to have bothered you.

You can go back to bed and take your meds now.

I pointed out to you that you could get graphs that were not pie charts for the value of investments. I pointed out to you two different bar graphs that provide the equivalent of a "line graph of my investments over time": Net Worth, and Portvolio Value and Cost Basis. And I pointed out to you that bar graphs do display trends.

At virtually every step along the way you claimed you still couldn't get what you wanted, despite the fact that it was practically staring you in the face.

I think that if you don't consider what I provided as "help", you have confirmed my comment that you probably don't deserve the help

The Customize dialog gives you the same opportunity to select "interval" that you see in the "interval drop down box" in the report itself.

I just tested (again) in Q2002, Q2005, and Q2008: The Net Worth graph and the Portfolio Value and Cost Basis graph have always defaulted to showing a single bar with only the value for the current month. To see the values over time, you always had to customize for the desired interval ... requiring more than one click.

If you were able to get a graph to display what you were looking for, with one click ... you had to have Saved a report/graph you had customized, and put an icon for that Saved report/graph on your Quicken toolbar. Which you can still do.

[You can also put a Net Worth bar graph and/or a Portfolio Value vs Cost Basis bar graph in a View on your Quicken Home Page. There, depending on what screen you have Quicken "open" to, or what Home View you have last looked at: you can get your "trend" with one click (Home) or one double-click (to start Quicken).]
