When I download my credit card transactions Q2007 assigns categories to the transactions. How do I stop this?

I suggest you check into: "Memorized" Payees (and "Quickfill"); and auto "categorzation".
Information on those subjects can be found in Quicken Help
That should have said, " ... auto 'categorization'".
