QIF yet again

Alright now that we know that Intuit is highly unlikely to ever realize that there are a LOT of FIs out there that are NOT going to convert away from QIF format...

Is there ANY way you know of to have a QIF file get inserted into 2005?

The additional complication is that I just moved to a new laptop computer and have misplaced my distribution disk for 2004. I could of course buy one of the ones off eBay for $10 I suppose.

In the long run, however, I don't like my financial software to get too far out of whack with reality. Tax laws being what they are.

With investment data, no. With other types of data, yes.

If you have credit card data or bank account (spending, savings, etc.) or asset or liability data:

Back up your existing Quicken data. (Just to be safe. ) Create a cash account. Import your QIF into it. Verify that your data is what you expect it to be. Click on the first transaction, and then, while holding the shift key, click on the last transaction. If there is a specific range needed, limit it when you select your data. Click on Edit > Transaction > Move Transactions. Select the name of the account you wish to move the transactions into.

Your transactions should now be in the correct place. Keep in mind that you can and will end up with duplicate transactions if some of the transactions are already in the target account.

Do NOT upgrade past Quicken 2005, or you will find yourself with less capability. If they still have this idiotic policy in place in a few years and keep sunsetting older releases, look for alternative software.

Yes, you can, in most cases, import QIF data. You do not need a QFX file or an OFX file, if you don't mind the extra steps above. You can also use a program such as MT2OFX (freeware) to convert the QIF files to an OFX file, and then manually change them to QFX files. But this won't work with investment data.
