Not sure about that! A lot of homes in New Orleans were rendered unusable after Katrina with people certainly still alive (and living in trailers or Houston....). Seems to me that perhaps you would ABSOLUTELY want to have a copy of your financial records (for insurance purposes, etc.) stored safely (read that in a good safe or safe deposit box somewhere) offsite!

And here in the upper Northeast USA, we had a rather large rain event this past weekend with TS Hanna coming through - some local folks I know of had their basements (where computers were located) made unusable as well. And who knows what H. Ike will do in a few days....

I was not kidding when I said one should keep a copy of their financial records hardened "offsite"....just in case.

Think about it!

I'd agree if I lived in New Orleans or similar area subject to natural disaster. I'd also be more concerned if it weren't possible to reconstruct the records, time consuming but possible.

I'm not saying most people shouldn't follow your advice, I'm saying everyone must evaluate his/her/it's own individual situation which is probably different from everyone else's situation.

Yip, that is really helping me.

I don't show an anti-MS bias, I show a pro-user bias.

I can see how you can think those two might really be the same thing, and that is the problem with MP's. If you disagree, there is an anti-MS bias. If you were really honest with yourself, you would admit that. But you won't, because that would also force you to admit that being an MVP is not really about helping users, but helping Microsoft by getting users to buy more Microsoft software. Just as you did to me.

If you are so apt to help users, why don't you also criticize Intuit for dropping Windows 2000 support. You still haven't answered that question.

No, instead you tell me to give Microsoft more money to buy the fiasco known as Windows Vista.

So tell me...

How does harassing a Windows user (who happens to be happy with Windows 2000) to upgrade to a DRM-encumbered WGA'd version of Windows become HELPING that user? If the MVP were really helping the users, the MVP would be chastising Intuit for dropping Windows 2000 support, instead of harassing the user to upgrade to the fiasco known as Vista (and, yes, I have tried Vista.)

Whose interest is that MVP really serving? The user's or Microsoft's? When you answer that question honestly, you will finally see what the MVP program is all about - selling more Microsoft product.

| Thanks Han, I'll give it a look.

Just make sure to add descriptions to the files of removed entries (i.e., _DLLs) so you can figure out which ones to restore if you run into problems later. I've been using it monthly for years and love it.

Just about all my software works. There is only 1 small hitch - I use a program called Mailwasher that prescreens email from all my accounts, and from which I can delete emails off the servers if I deem them worthless or worse. It is supposed to fire up my Eudora and tell her to getmy mail, but that does not work 100%. It works the first time, because Eudora is set to get mail on startup (and then every 24 hrs), it does not work anymore the next time, like in XP. small problem, really.

====== Hi Han,

You're right, first time it processes email it opens the email program (like Eurdora) which then downloads all available email. Subsequent times it will dump spam and then maximizes your (minimized) email program. At that point you have to tell your email program to download email, since it only downloads automatically on startup. It's been working like that for me ever since I've gotten it (in W2k and XP).

Hi Deb!

The automatic download worked for me all the time in XP. In vista there is a bug/feature that prevents it. I remember it was a bit of a job to get this feature to work in XP (Mailwasher firing up Eudora and making it retrieve mail).

I am trying now, but I think the same problem persists. I think it is with the helper program that launches the email program.
