Quicken 2012 Data Fails to Load

May 21, 2014 1 Replies

I'm using Windows 7 64 bit and Quicken 2012 Premier. I've been using Quick en since 1992 and have a lot of time invested in this data file. After laun ching Quicken and entering my password the data file begins to load. Then after a few minutes trying to load, Windows reports that Quicken is not res ponding.

I tried a file validation and a super validation and no errors were reporte d. Three recent backup files also fail to load. A December backup does lo ad but I'd hate to enter five months of data without knowing what happened. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Well, I recovered the quicken data file. Actually it was a recent backup t hat I recovered. Since none of my backups would load, I began to wonder wh y a corrupted data file continued to load allow creation of additional back ups. I thought, what do these data files have in common? Then I noticed t he log files named MyDataFileOFXLOG.DAT and MyDataFileOFXOLD.DAT. I remembe red deleting the OLD file a few weeks or months ago and seeing no noticeabl e effect.

So, I moved both DAT files to my desktop and tried again to load a backup f ile into Quicken. To my surprise, a fairly recent version loaded, but not without problems. Quicken reported the file was corrupt! Looking at my cre dit card account I saw around 200 duplicate copies of my cell phone bill. I deleted all but the last copy. Then I tried a validate and then a super validate. Both reported the file was damaged. So, as a last resort, I did a copy of the file within quicken. The new copy seems to be perfect. It v alidates and after a few direct connect sessions the account balances are g ood. End of story. I hope this never happens to another Quicken user, but if it does information might be helpful.
