Quicken 2014 - Odd sounds when recording investment transactions, etc.

I use the CTRL-ENTER key combination to record the current investment transaction and to keep the window open to record the next one.

With this new version (upgraded from Quicken 2011), in addition to the usual ka-ching sound upon recording the transaction, I also now get the sound listed under Windows Control Panel/Sounds/Windows as "Default Beep".

I get this same "Default Beep" sound whenever I press CTRL-F to start a search or CTRL-G to go to a date.

I would appreciate any help as to how to stop this behavior.

Set your audio to "Mute".

I know, you just couldn't resist . . . ;)

Seriously, though, Quicken never before made that "Default Beep" sound during those activities and I do not see anything untoward under Control Panel|Sounds. I thought maybe someone else had the same issue.

I'm running Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit.

I assume that you have rebooted your device? What about re-installing Quicken?

Yes, I have rebooted since the Quicken installation; the problem still exists.

I have not tried reinstalling Quicken. I might give that a try this coming weekend.

I reinstalled today after first uninstalling. Many problems with install getting hung up during the "Updating Quicken" phase. In short, a ten-minute operation turned into an hours-long bloody nightmare of reboots, system restores, etc., but at the end, I'm right back where I started.

I'll just live with it - no biggie. It's just hard to believe that my set-up is that unusual that nobody else has run into the same problem.

I suspect that there are others with your problem but they chose to use the lazy way--they simply wait until someone ELSE posts a fix to the problem rather than doing what YOU did--that is, stating they HAVE the problem and want a fix.

I would check:

  1. Control Panel\Sound

  1. click on the 'Sounds' tab

  2. scroll down to the quicken heading (won't be alphabetically listed)

  1. uncheck the problem sound.

The problem is that the offending sound ("Default Beep") is not listed under any of the Quicken actions. Nor is the Quicken action in question ("Find") listed either.

Good thought, though, thanks.

Maybe you've already tried, but you could set Default Beep to 'None'(under Windows in the sound list). I have my windows sounds set to 'No Sounds'. I use Quicken Deluxe 2013 and don't hear any sounds within Quicken.

No, I have not tried that since I do want to hear sounds when appropriate.

I'll just live with it. No big deal - just a bit annoying, especially since I don't know the reason for it.

You are not the only one to experience this behavior when upgrading from 20

11 to 2014. I am having it, too. I frequently use keyboard shortcuts, and i t seems to do it when using a lot of them, e.g. Ctrl-n to start entering a new transaction, or Ctrl-s to open the split dialog.

I had the thought to check the "Sound" control panel, as well. All the Quic ken sounds are there, but the one that is being made is the Windows "Defaul t Beep" as you have said. I changed it to be a unique sound from all the ot hers set in the control panel to be certain that was the one that was being played.

This is highly annoying, since I use these key combos all the time to perfo rm transaction entry efficiently, and I don't really want to disable the sy stem-wide default beep notification sound. Anyone who finds a fix, please l et us know. Meanwhile, I'll keep looking. Thanks!
