The original way to rename a Quicken data file was File > File Operations > Rename.

Since Quicken data has been contained in a single Windows file (for over a decade ), you can rename your Quicken data file using Windows Explorer. When Quicken is NOT running, right-click the Quicken data file in Windows Explorer and select Rename.

If you're counting on Quicken to start by opening the data file it last had open, you'll need to tell Quicken what the new file name is. To do that:

- hold down CTRL+SHIFT while starting Quicken (Quicken will run, but not attempt to open any file)

- go to File > Open Quicken file, browse to your renamed Quicken data file, and click Open.

From that point on, Quicken should open your renamed file each time it starts.
