Checking that the address for an online payee is correct

I just noticed the above Community discussion - I'm not sure I understand the difficulty expressed there.

It's not that difficult to open the Online Payee List, select a payee, and click Edit - to display the Online Payee's address).

The Online Payee List can also be printed: if it's printed to a PDF file, that PDF file could be open while using Quicken, for easy reference to Online Payee addresses.

But for those who must see the Online Payee's address at the moment they are creating an online payment ... with no additional effort, Quicken already provides a simple method to do that: use the Quicken "Write Checks" dialog to create online payments.

Open the Write Checks dialog (Tools > Write and Print Checks; CTRL+w; or add the Write Checks icon to the Quicken Toolbar and use that).

With the Write Checks dialog open: make sure the Quicken billpay account is selected in the "Write checks from" dropdown, and make sure the "Use Online Bill Pay" box is checked.

When an Online Payee is then selected in the "Pay to the order of" dropdown, that Online Payee's address will appear in the "Bill pay address" area of the Write Checks dialog.

[NOTE: This worked fine in Q2020 R26.17, but the address did not display in Q2020 R33.24. I do have QuickFill turned on in both releases; not sure what else might be involved. In any event, it would seem to be much simpler to insure that the Write Checks dialog works correctly, than to add a new feature for the purpose of seeing Online Bill Payee addresses.]

I failed to read one of the posts in the above Community discussion carefully, so I'm commenting on that post now.

On July 9, 2021, user Rick Milton said: "My online payee address for my healthcare provider seems to change every time they send me a bill and I have sent it to the wrong PO box on MANY occasions! There is no easy way to verify where it will be going -- I suggest something very similar to what is contained in writing a check - show that same information (address, payee, etc) on the Online payment 'check'."

User Milton's request will do nothing to solve the problem he reports.

Quicken gets no notification of an Online Payee change of address; so there is no way for Quicken to notify the user of a new Online Payee address, or even that the Online Payee's address has changed. Users will have to note the address on the invoices they receive, then check in Quicken to see whether the Quicken address is the same as the address on the received invoice, and change the Quicken address when called for.

User Milton has basically made more-or-less the same suggestion I made in my earlier post in this discussion ... but Milton apparently did not realize that the Quicken Write Checks dialog already shows the Online payee address (except - based on my test - in Q2020 R33.24: I have been unable to install any newer release than R33.24, so that release is the limit of my current knowledge.)

Sorry: I failed to mention that the Write Checks dialog also allows the user to Edit the payee address.

I just installed R34.20 on my test pc, and Quicken still does not display Online Payee addresses in the Write Checks dialog.

This capability worked in the past, and I can't think of any reason why it would be intentionally removed. If anyone here with interest in this subject has access to the Quicken Community, you might consider adding some comments to the Community discussion referenced here to see whether other Quicken users are having the same experience ... and whether Quicken agrees that there is a problem.

I have reported this issue to Quicken using Help > Report a problem ...

To those who are interested: If you haven't already done so, I suggest you consider doing the same.

I can't find that on the website.. I'm logged in and when I go support/windows the only options for "reporting" seem to be call us/ chat with us/ask our community.

You use Quicken Help > Report a problem.

That is: the Help referred to is the Help choice in the Quicken menu.

} Checking that the address for an online payee is correct

I have an update!!! I tried using the write-check dialogue to pay an online bill [instead of the online center] and I saw something that I, at least, had never noticed before. In the check image there was a button "edit address" and when I clicked it the address [as from the payees] window popped up and I was able to check that it was correct. YAY

My apologies.

I knew that, but I failed to make it explicit.

I did refer to it in my second post on July 10 here - but I should have made it clearer.
