Report for Future Dates

The Quicken 2007 reporting function will not allow me to develop a report for months beyond the current month. I'm pretty sure the older (and in my opinion better) 2004 version let me do that. I made some entries on April

30 that I wanted to show up in May. Quicken let me change the date on the register, but until May 1, I could not generate a report showing these entries. All I get is a drop down list of months, with the current month the latest option. Bank of America will allow me to pay bills in advance, but Quicken will not allow me to show those advance bills in future months' reports. Is this complaint unusual or unreasonable?

I think you need to supply more specifics about which report you are trying to create, and the steps you're taking.

Quicken has no basic rule preventing future dated transactions in reports, basically all you need is a date range that includes the transactions you are interested in. Perhaps there are a few reports that don't allow it, but I don't know what they would be. (And I'm referring to transactions that are in Quicken registers; not Scheduled transactions, budgeted amounts, cash forecasts, etc.).

I have a saved income/expense report subtotaled by category that I have been using for 15 years or so with various versions of Quicken. At the top of the report there is a drop down box for date range (monthly, quarterly, yearly, month to date, etc.); I use monthly. To the right of that is another box that lets me choose the month from another drop down list, but May07 is as far as it goes. If I remember, older versions used to pop up a little calendar and let me advance beyond the current month. I have future dated transactions in the register, but this report will not allow me to see them. I tried the "customize" button, but get the same restriction. I even tried creating a quick report (how much did I pay to) and it still won't allow me to go beyond May07.

I just took a look in Q2002, Q2004, Q2005, Q2006 and Q2007.

First, the "Monthly" date range was introduced in Q2006.

Second, Q2006 and Q2007 exhibit the same limitation you report when the "Monthly" date range is selected.

Third, why select a date range of "Monthly"? You couldn't have been using that for 15, or even 5, years; why now?

The Date Range of Monthly is not necessary in order to see amounts by month. You can chose any date range that covers the period you are interested in; and, if necessary, choose any "Interval" that suits (month if you want to see multiple months at once). If you choose a Date Range of "Custom dates", you'll see that little calendar. You can see your future transactions for any period, or periods, for whatever permitted "interval", for however far in the future you choose. Just use an appropriate "Date range".

Hmm. they seemed to have changed a lot of things in 2006 that I don't like! (the worse thing is subtotaling at the TOP of the list of items in the category, rather than at the bottom). And yes, I have been using a monthly report for as long as I have been using Quicken, at least 15 years. At the end of every month, I give my partner a "bill" for all the expenses we have incurred for the month and then we settle up. That's why I select a monthly report. And thanks for the tip on choosing custom dates to get the calendar. I see that now. It didn't used to be hidden.
