Search for equity by symbol?

In Quicken deluxe can you search for a security by its symbol instead of its name?

I don't understand exactly what you want to do. Maybe if I knew how you "search" for a security by its "name", I'd have a better idea what you're looking for.

Thanks for replying John.

(I am using Q Deluxe 2006 in Windows XP).

I am talking about the "securities list" that appears when you click on Ctrl-Y. It is sorted by Security name which makes it easy to find a security by scrolling down to its name and then reading its Symbol in the second column.

What I would like to do is the reverse: scroll down to a specific symbol and find what security is linked to it. I cannot seem to find a way to have the security list appear sorted by symbol instead of security.

I assumed the customized report function would do it, but when I click on the report button on that "Security List" page I get a blank report because it seems to be designed to list transactions for a selected security.

I also tried Ctrl-U (Portfolio) and though that does permit me to sort by symbol, it is subdivided by accounts and there does not seme to be a way to get a list of Securities similar to Ctrl-Y sorted by symbol instead of name.

Maybe a report can be created to achieve that but I am not sure were to begin modifying among Quicken numerous default reports.

That's odd; the Portfolio tab is the only way I know to get what you want.

You are not obliged to view the securities in the Portfolio tab by Account; you can tell Quicken to "Group by" "Security". You can add the "Ticker Symbol" column to the display. And you can click on the "Ticker Symbol" column heading to sort the securities by ticker symbol. [You can also print the resulting display using File > Print Portfolio (only works when Portfolio tab is open).]

Will try doing that. Thanks.
