Strange Transfer button activity

I just noticed what I believe is a flaw in Q2006 Basic and presumably higher versions.

If you have an existing transaction without a category and you try to make it into a transfer, you may run into a problem. If you go into the Category box and scroll all the way down to where your accounts are listed in "Transfer to/from" form, then you won't have a problem.

HOWEVER, when you click on that down arrow in the Category box you're also presented with several buttons: Split, Transfer, Add Cat, Show List and Show Hidden. If you click on that Transfer button, you're presented with a form that not only asks you to find the account you're transfering to, but also to put in an amount. If you do that, you'll wind up creating a NEW transaction.

Has this been mentioned before? This has to be an error. If it's a "feature," it's a totally non-intuitive one. Why would you want to create a new transaction from inside another one?

Those buttons are also in Q2005 (and I believe earlier versions too). They are there for every existing transaction regardless of what is in its category field. The transfer dialog is the same as you would get if you clicked "Transfer" in the register menu, just above. And the dialog that results from clicking "Transfer" is clearly not a dialog for modifying the transaction you clicked in.

I doubt it's a bug.

Then I don't understand the logic of it. Why would you want to create a new transaction from within an existing one? (I realize I asked this question the first time as well.) To me, it would be akin to having a button there allowing you to do a year-end review or to export info to a tax program. In other words, there's no logical relationship to the transaction you are currently working on.

BTW, after I posted, I used Q2006 on another computer and when I clicked that Transfer button in question, the amount I had already included in the transaction DID show up in the transfer dialogue a couple of times. Then when I tried it a third time, it exhibited the same behavior I described above, where it in fact created a separate transaction. So, if it was Intuit's intent to create a new transaction with that button, the behavior is not consistent.

(And by way of additional explanation. The version of Q2006 on both computers is IDENTICAL. That is, they were both loaded from the same CD. I'm in the process of transitioning my Quicken use from one computer to another, which is why I have it installed twice. I will eventually uninstall the other version.)
