How to handle replacement for stolen credit card

Someone got my credit card number and made some purchases. Because I download transactions daily I caught it right away. My bank has killed the old card and will issue me a new one. they assured me I am not responsible for teh bogus charges. They told me that when my new card arrives I should just update the Quicken account with the new account number.

Since then a valid charge has been posted against the old number. Today I saw a payment corresponding to that charge, resulting in a zero balance. My bank told me this is their mechanism to move the valid transaction from my old CC number to the new one.

What's the best way to handle this in Quicken? Should I change the account number on the existing account like they said, or just create a new account in Quicken?

A similar thing happened to me a couple of years ago ... and I, likewise, caught it promptly due to daily downloads (take THAT, Chicken-Little's who bitch about Quicken security).

I created a new account, since a couple of fraudulent transactions continued to dribble in for a couple of days after I reported the loss. Opening a new account made it quite easy for me to isolate and identify the fraudulent transactions since they weren't interspersed with legit ones.

Brings to mind that hoary old joke about the guy who lost a credit card, but didn't report it stolen. Asked why he said that the thief was spending less than his wife.

I created a new account and Quicken connected to CitiBank w/o a problem. What really surprised me was that CitiBank transferred my entire transaction history to the new account and zero'd out the balance on the old account.
