Recovering credit card overpayment

I have just signed up for a new credit card, and requested a balence to be transferred from my old card to the new. I originally told the new card that

10000 should be transferred, however this relied on me making a purchase with my old card that didn't actually happen. The new card did transfer 10000 to my old card, leaving the old card 6100 *in credit*!

Problem: How to get this 6100, which is in credit, out of my old card and back to the new one (to reduce the 10000 new debit balence) without incurring charges such as cash advance charges.

Do credit card companies charge a cash advance fee if all you are doing is transferring money that is in credit?

I would argue in this case the transaction was erroneous anyway, not only because I told them the transfer was conditional on me making the purchase, but also the implication is that you are moving one debit balence to another card, not creating a credit in one of them.

Any ideas?

Overdraft transfer?

Nope - just ring up and tell them you made the payment in error and that you'd like the money refunded either back to the other credit card or back to your own bank account. When you request it, tell them that under no circumstances will you accept any additional charges from them, as they are simply making an account refund that has been over paid.
