Credit on credit card

I have a positive amount on a credit card (50 quid or so), due to a direct debit and a manual payment going in together (whoops). What's the easiest way to get the money off the credit card, given that I don't really use it (now the balance is paid off)?

If I close down the card can I ask the provider to give me a cheque for the positive balance?

The minimum balance transfer is 100 quid, so I suppose I could send them another 50 quid, then transfer it to my egg card, and then my bank account... (providing there are no charges)

Just ring them up and ask for a cheque refund or a credit back to your bank account - there should be no charge. If they indicate otherwise, put the phone down and ring back - you might get somebody who knows what they are talking about.

I had a similar situation on my Amex card (entirely due to my own c*ck-up) and ended up just under 50 quid in credit.

So I took my wife out for a nice dinner and paid with the card - double whammy: balance back down to nil and a happy missus !

Think I'd rather have the money!

Do you know his wife then?

Thanks for that - Halifax refunded the positive balance, no questions asked.
