Credit Card Refund Query

Hi,

In January this year I purchased a TV online using my credit card (Barclaycard). I then saw it somewhere else for cheaper so around 15 minutes after purchasing it, I cancelled the order and asked for a refund. The company told me i'd be refunded the full amount in 3-5 working days.

Now, almost 2 months later the amount still hasn't been refunded to my card. I have alreay contacted the company and have two emails from them assuring met the refund was paid on 19th Jan. I went to Barclaycard and asked them to investigate and after filling in forms and sending them the emails, they came back with a short letter saying that as I had cancelled the order myself then they couldn't help me, and they would continue charging interest on the disputed amount.

What are my rights here, and what should I expect from Barclaycard?!

Any help appreciated. Thanks Dom Gifford

You should expect Barclaycard to help.

Complain, complain again and then take the complaint to the obundsman.

At the moment you don't know whether the refund was processed and lost (Barclaycards problem) or that the company are lieing to you about processing it (which is also likely to be Barclaycard's problem because of their joint liability under the consimer credit act. Pretending that they don't have this liability is the usual CC reaponse - personally I think that they should be fined each time they do this)

Thanks for your reply Tim.

Is there a website with the consumer credit agreement on (preferably with an explanation in non financial lingo!) that I can look at? It would be good if I could maybe put some quote in my replies to them.

I've done a quick search and was a bit overwhelmed with the results....

Cheers Dom

IIRC, there is some info on the OFT's website.

Minimum transaction value to "qualify" for joint liability (CC and supplier) is 100, and be UK based.

Can we assume that you haven't received the TV?
