Dabs website and credit card clearance

After my previous problem of ordering over the internet I have had another problem!

Yesterday morning I ordered an hard disk from Dabs' web site.

I got a message saying "Card number **** **** **** 4009 has been successfully processed"

I had paid extra for next day delivery. There was 80-odd in stock.

When I hadn't had the delivery by this afternoon I checked the web site. My order said "awaiting card issuer clearance"! How is that compatible with the previous message. I called my credit card company and was told that no charge had been requested.

I clicked on the "awaiting card issuer clearance" link and it said "This means your card and address are waiting to be checked by our security department"! Dabs' security department are different to the card issuer so this seems another load of rubbish.

It would appear that very few companies offer a simple buying experience nowadays.

I was once looking forward to receiving something quickly from jungle.com but was caught out because, as they were able to explain to me, the next day delivery I forked out extra for was 'the next day after we dispatch the item' not the next day after I ordered it.

True

Most people don't care when the goods are dispatched but they do care when they arrive. So one company may dispatch on order and you pay standard post and get it two days later but another waits a week to despatch and you get it the day after because you pay extra.

Dunno if you're aware of the many complaints on usenet about Dab. I've no idea how valid they are.

I ordered something from two different cos on Tuesday evening. In both cases declined to pay the extra 3 or so for guaranteed next day delivery, both came on Thursday anyway, as quick as realistically possible in any event. OTOH a DVD I ordered last december is still 'on order' from the misleadingly named 'dvd soon'.

I've found them pretty good in general (some time ago ordered a laptop at

2pm and it arrived the following morning) but I do recall some cc cockups with them as well.

I've had no problems either. Apparently it's when things go wrong you find out what they're really like.

Once I had a problem I did some research! I know I should have done it earlier but I was seduced by how many were in stock. I've now cancelled my order and ordered from PCWB and they have assured me that I will get the goods on Monday. Last time I used them they messed that up as well!

Dabs had sent me an email saying my card details didn't agree to that on my credit card. I checked the details I had given by looking at my account on Dabs website with Barclaycard and they were the same. A call monkey at Barclaycard tried to say that because Barclaycard have me listed as P Saxton then Dabs would reject me saying I am Peter Saxton! The supervisor confirmed this as well. At one stage they got in a bit of a mess by saying there could be more than one P Saxton with a Barclaycard and that could cause confusion. I pointed out that would be unlikely given that they also had my address and card number. When I asked whether they were in the habit of giving more than one person the same card number they said it was "unlikely"!

Dabs asked me for my card address and delivery address. They are one and the same on their website and the same as the Barclaycard address. Dabs also asked for my landline phone number. This is also the correct one that is on their webnsite. I have sent them an email asking what details appeared to be wrong.

Are you saying that on the dabs web site you put your name as on c card as Peter Saxton whereas in fact it says p saxton on your card?

Well you have to gain what you can but it's getting more of a waste of time dealing with "call centres".
