This group focuses on how to use Quicken. It has a vast amount of user experience and expertise, but generally no detailed knowledge about the inner workings of Quicken. It's OK to discuss Quicken bugs or deficiencies here, but this is not the place to complain about them because, officially at least, there's no one here with the power to address your complaints.

The Quicken forum is the "official" Quicken site, with whatever benefits and drawbacks that entails. I've used it only 2 or 3 times in ten years so I can't recommend for or against it.

I strongly prefer this group simply because it's standard newsgroup format lets me use the standard browsing, posting, monitoring and filtering tools of my newsreader. Otherwise I might use the Quicken forum or both.

yeah - it's easier to hang out here.... BUT - you get a wider audience with the web based forums. For my recent rash of postings, I've been snip'ing and posting the question on the Quicken and TurboTax forums.

You have a point. Takes me back 20 years when Turbotax was supported by a BBS at

I'm kind of a pack-rat but I think I finally threw out my old Chipsoft manuals, though I still have the software from 87 onward. Those were the days of dot matrix printer and you had to very carefully try to line up a paper 1040 into the printer platen and the program would attempt to print the data into the boxes.

Hi, Scott.

Ah, yes! I remember it well! (But NOT fondly!)

One technique was to print the data onto a transparent sheet of thin plastic, then very carefully position that data over the paper 1040 and put the assembly face-down onto the bed of a copying machine and hope that nothing slipped while it copied. When it worked, the copy that emerged was a competed return.

My printer was actually a Xerox Diablo daisy-wheel printer, so the completed return was BEAUTIFUL! ;(

For reasons that should be obvious, I did this for just the front and back of the 1040 itself. All the supporting Forms and Schedules were photocopies of the forms filled in with hand-entered data. The originals usually were in pencil, not ink.

Just out of curiosity, how does one access the "Quicken Forum"?
