Tool Bar Issues with Q210 Premier R3 for Windows

I have noticed the following issues recently with the Tool Bar Icons in Q210 Premier.

First, the icons change when I switch between Standard Menus and Classic Menus in the View Menu.

Second, if I customize the Tool Bar in Standard Menu view, the changes are not permanent. The revert back to a different set when I switch views or the next time I load Quicken.

Third, the icon for "Go to Investing >> Portfolio" icon is different in Standard Menu view than it is in Classic Menu view. And I can't figure out how to change it.

Is anyone else experiencing the same issues?

Also, can someone point out the advantages of Standard Menu view over Classic Menu view and why the Standard Menu view is "Recommended"?

Thanks, John

Some icons are not available in both views.

I think there is something buggy in the way Quicken is handling this. The budget icon can't be selected in Standard menus. But if you select it in Classic menus, then switch to Standard menus, the Budget icon will disappear (logical, if it's not available in Standard menus), then exit Quicken and restart, the Budget icon will reappear even though Standard menus are still selected (weird).

It looks the same in both menus to me ... and it works like the Budget icon referred to above, in my Q2010 RPM R2.

Some capabilities differ between the two "views". If you want to have Quicken open to an account "register" (Transactions tab), you have to use Classic menus, for example.

I think Intuit has said they adopted the "Standard menus" (the new user interface) in response to complaints (or perhaps, inferred complaints) that navigation in Quicken was too difficult. I suspect that if you don't find one View preferrable to the other, no recommendation will be of much value. I'm guessing Intuit recommended Standard menus (and made them the default for new users) because they designed the new UI with the intent that it address problems they believed users (perhaps, new, or inexperienced users) had been having.

After to download R3, would you mind checking this out again to see if you get more similar results to what I am seeing?

I'll try to get R3 as soon as Intuit makes it available; they have already said that those who now have R3 got it prematurely - I'm not expecting R3 to be available much before the end of the month, and from the sounds of things, it may not be the same R3 you are using.

I have already complained about the odd toolbar icon behavior in R2 and Intuit has said they're aware of it and are working on it. I don't know whether to expect changes to the toolbar behavior when R3 is officially available.

I am thinking of reinstalling q2010 to get back to R2. Do you think that is a good idea?

I can't really say; I think much of R3 is going to be fixes to the Money Converter, though Intuit has hinted that there should be other, non-Money related, fixes in R3. I can say I haven't read of anything specific about R3 that someone who did not convert from Money couldn't live without.

If you can't think of anything about the R3 you have now, that you need, I don't think you have much to lose ... but if the actual R3 has the problems you dislike now, you have little to gain.
