Transfer to new computer

I recently purchased a new computer which has no floppy drive. My old computer has only a floppy drive and a CD (read-only) drive. I also recently upgraded to QHB-2008 since my bank no longer will support QHB-2005.



I'd like to know which files from QHB-2005 I must bring over to QHB-2008 in order to complete the setup/upgrade on the new PC. I was planning to zip them up and e-mail them to myself, and then download them to the new PC.



Alternatively I've considered getting an external USB floppy drive so I can setup from my last floppy backup, but after setting up the new PC I'd no longer have any use for the USB floppy - so that's seems a waste of money.



Just wondering if there's an easier way. TIA...

How about using a USB flash drive?

I copied the entire Quicken data folder and BACKUP folder to the USB flash drive as a means of transfering them to my other computer. Once on the new computer I just used the File>>open option to open up the file. Since you will be upgrading to a new version, Quicken will make a backup file when it converts your file to the new format.

If you don't want to move all of the files just look for the Quicken data folder (mine is in My Documents). If your file is called {qdata} then move all of the files that begin with {qdata}. You should have 5-7 files depending on the features you use.

I tried using a flash drive, but for some reason it didn't work. My old computer only had USB 1.0, and I'm not sure if that had anything to do with it. I ended up borrowing an external floppy drive from a friend, so the problem is solved. Thanks for your response.

glad you found a solution. Yes, using a new USB flash drive may/may not work on older computers. Sometimes you have to install drivers to get it them to work. Your external floppy was a good alternative.
