Transferring between accounts

All the stock from one account are transferring to a different account. When I use the obvious transaction (transfer shares between accounts), it just removes the stock from the original account and adds it to the other. The cost basis is lost. Am I doing it wrong?

The help file entry (in Q2008 Dlx) for "Shares Transferred Between Accounts" explicitly says "Cost basis will be transferred for all securities that have been correctly set up."

Not much consolation, but it's supposed to work.

It works for me in QP2010. I periodically do a partial rollover from my

403b to a n IRA, and the cost basis is retained.

hmmmm - I just happen to do a ownership transfer on my Vanguard Accounts, and Q2009 did a Transfer Shares from the Individual to my Joint account. Happen to read this message.... and then go look at my accounts.

NO - the cost basis was setup as basically today's price x shares transferred ! However, all the old history is still sitting in the old account listed in Quicken - but with zero shares.

SO, I restored a back to see what the old Cost basis was in the Overview, copied it down. Then re-opened my current file, brought up each account transferred - and manually updated the transaction - resetting the share price to force a calc on the Cost Basis....

I did share price vs the total which I had written down, so Q2009 would not create an "est" tag for the account.

SO - in summary - for my transfer - NO COST BASIS WAS CARRIED FORWARD
