Transition from Q98 to Q2008

I have a small screen (17" CRT) and I can't afford the wasted space that the default Register view of Q08 provides (Q98 was bad enough). The Register view is what I want to see most of the time and I prefer to see nothing but transaction lines from the top of my screen (except a tiny Menu line) to the bottom and from one side to the other. So far, I've worked the wasted space down to approximately 40% (started with 60% wasted) but I seem to have run out of Preference checkboxes etc.

Is there any way to eliminate the 1/2" spam line across the bottom? Or the 1/2" line above that with the "Download Transactions" and "Scheduled Bills & Deposits" buttons? I'll need to use those features at some point, maybe 1% of my time, but I don't need those buttons taking up Register space 100% of the time. Similar problems at the top. Some space wasted with unnecessary Tabs as well as completely blank space (I can only describe it as "Open green space" lol!) left there by the Graphics Artist, for environmental purposes I suppose.

I have absolutely nothing against right brainers, but advice from any left brainers out there will be much appreciated.

TIA, Port

I think Quicken has made it clear tha you have 3 choices: Live with it Buy a cheap bigger monitor (I regret that I didn't buy a bigger LCD when I replaced my 17" CRT) Switch to a spreadsheet.

No, there is no painless way.

Okay, thanks. That's really disappointing. Actually, there is one other choice, which I'll probably elect, and that's to just stick with Q98. That looks like my best bet for now.

Thanks again, Port

I'm sure Q99 works fine, but I like OneStepUpdate, and I doubt that you can get that to work. If you can, please let us know how.

Also, you may have to use run as administrator or some other trick to make it run properly. (I said may!!)

I have generally been upgrading every other year. For me that is the sweet spot between totally up-to-date and very frugal.

I would have prefered to stay current but only with an equal or improved product. I like simple and efficient versus colorful with graphics. And I'm not very frugal when it comes to software that I find improved. I haven't seen improvements that'll benefit me though. In fact, the reverse is true for things like the Register view. Q98 puts 50% more transaction lines on my screen than Q2008. That's a big difference in a feature that's important to me. To someone else, the Register may not be important at all. On the other hand, Q2008 has features that are apparently important to other people but are totally lost on me.

Anyhow, thanks for the conversation ;-)

If you just want to put more transactions on the screen at one time you can consider using the "one line display" option, which eliminates the MEMO field. At least, this works in Q07.

Yep, I think it works in all Q versions, including Q2008 and Q1998.
