TTax install error - 1603

Just tried to install TTax 2013 on my trusty Dell laptop running XP/sp3 and about 24% of the way thru -

get --> Error 1603 - Windows Installer Error

All of the Intuit forum postings lead you to conclude that there is something wrong with the .NET install. Other messages also point to probs using an AMD cpu, and also about ausing nything prior to a Pentium 4.

Well - after banging my head all afternoon, and doing everything to verify my .NET install as per various Microsoft .NET support websites, I took a look at my CPU config - since I knew it was a Pentium and NOT the AMD.

DUH - My trustly Dell C610 laptop has an Intel Pentium III-S Mobile 1.2Ghz

SO - on the Intuit forum, there is a posting for "Error 1603 fix" which leads you to a link for downloading a complete 90mb patched version of TTax 2013 -

Just downloaded - installed - opened - ALL IS GOOD

It appears the problem is related to the newer instruction set called SSE2 of the Intel P4 cpu.... this is going back a few years.

SO - Intuit must have finally used a compiler that created machine instructions using the newer SSE2 set - vs the older and more compatible x86 instruction set.
