Windows XP and TTax 2014 install ?

Asked about Q2015 - but forgot to ask about TTax for 2014 ?

Will TTax 2014 install on Win XP, or does Intuit put up the "un-supported OS" splash screen ?

Since WinXP became a dead OS 4/8/'14 and that is outside 2014's tax season, I presume it would.

Using the boxed disc for TTax2014, the specific message is: "TurboTaxUtility.exe is not a valid Win 32 application."

Of course, it works fine on Win 7.

BTW - another issue for my laptop that came up last year,=20 was that the CPU is the Intel Pentium III mobile.

And it doesn't have a specific instruction set that the programmers of TTax happen to use. Therefore - it would not work. Last year, they made available a full download=20 of a "fixed" TTax that didn't use that newer instruction set.

I'll have to see what happens this year.

Can you point to a formal document making this declaration ?

Again - it's NOT related to XP,=20 but rather to the CPU - and the supported instruction set. If you are compiling software, and use the "latest and greatest" library = version, then it will probably make use of the latest x86 instruction set. This may not be supported by some AMD or Intel processors. Hence the problem - from last year -=20

NOW - they MAY have "gotten around" this issue,=20 by merely stating that the minimum reqs are a Pentium 4 - regardless of = OS -=20

This came up last year with CPU issues and TTax would not install. You can see the threads regarding XP/SP3 and TTax 2013.

Just wanted to share - about this same topic for TurboTax 2014 -

I just bought TTax 2014 Premier and installed it on my trusty laptop... XP/SP3 with a Pentium III. Was afraid of the new CPU reqs, since the website/box indicate a min req of a Pentium 4.

BUT - it installed today 2/9/2015 - and ran the Updater, opened/imported last years 2013 TTax file, and it all looks good so far...

SO - THANKS - for not updating TTax to use the new SSE2 hardware CPU instruction set, which allows our older processors, like a Pentium III and certain AMD chips to still work with TTax 2014 for this tax season.
