TurboTax pricing. Tricky.

Wow! I just bought T/T Deluxe from Intuit and you're correct, Amazon price is substantially cheaper. I submitted my refund request to Intuit with this reason.

Now, will they offer simply a partial refund to match Amazon, or will I get the entire amount back and then have to uninstall/reinstall (or perhaos simply use a new activation code?) We'll see!

Interesting that the download process has changed. You used to download directly from Amazon. Now you get referred to an Intuit website.

I don't think there's anything wrong or strange about this.

Intuit is a software developer, sales is not their specialty. Amazon (and the like) are sellers, sales IS their specialty.

Intuit needs those third-party sellers, and those third party sellers wouldn't have much incentive to try to sell Intuit products, if Intuit's price and the third-party seller's price were too close ... much less the same.

I think Intuit just offers their product for sale as a convenience for potential customers who don't want to shop around for the best price.

I believe the same logic applies to Quicken.

I can't ever recall Intuit/Quicken not charging more for Quicken than third-party sellers.

I don't use TurboTax but use H&R Deluxe Tax cut for the past six years. I bought from Amazon the following version for $19.99 during the Black Friday deals. H&R Block Tax Software Deluxe 2023

If you let Norton do their auto renewals they try to charge you over $100 a year, but if you let it expire you can buy the same version from Amazon for around $15. The key is you have to go into their system and turn off Auto Renewal at least 3 or 4 months before your renewal date. This year Norton actually sent me a special offer for $14.99 directly since just before it was set to expire.

So the credit hit my CC the next day. But the TT still "works", I thought perhaps that somehow the activation code would have been revoked. Maybe only when you actually try to submit a tax return?

At any rate, there was a number of posts on the Amazon website that said the 2024 d/l for TT was actually still providing the 2023 version of the product (!). I think I'll wait a few weeks until Amazon gets its act together since they claim that any purchase is non-refundable.

The download instructions changed this year. When you purchase TT from amazon, you get a restration key and are directed to download the software from Intuit. It no longer gets downloaded directly from Amazon.

Yes, but from what I've seen in various fora is that after purchasing for tax year 2024, Amazon was directing you to the download for last year's (tax year 2023) product! And you didn't know that until after you installed it!

My habit has been to buy the actual TurboTax CD from Amazon when it becomes available. My desktop PC still has a CDROM drive, and I prefer to have the program available to re-install in case I ever have to look at my older returns, instead of depending on the availability of a download. Does anyone know if Intuit is still going to make versions on CDROM for purchase at Amazon or elsewhere?

This might be user error. I did download the 2023 version by accident. This crime is known as PEBCAK and I am guilty, your honor.

Also, I purchased a license via Amazon soon after it went on sale. As others have reported, Amazon provided a registration code that is only useful on the Intuit download web pile. Said web pile was not able to provide TurboTax Premier 2024! But this problem only lasted a few hours. I immediately phoned Intuit customer support in order to whine. By the time a rep. called back, the problem was resolved.

No. I received an email from Intuit stating that this is not going to happen. You can google "turbo tax 2024 no CD" to read about it. For example,

The downloaded software is an installer, no different than what comes on a CDROM. Once installed, the installer can be kept on your computer. The only difference would be if you lost the downloaded installer and needed to install on a new computer.

Don't see the CD version at any of the usual places (Amazon, Costco, OfficeMax, etc.) right now, but I suspect it will be available closer to the end of the year.

I take this back. Lots of discussion on the Turbotax community boards aboout how none of the major tax software will be available on CDROM this year.

Yes, and so where a lot of people. That was the point of the posts. Everything looked like it was 2024 but once installed, it was last year's product. But I would think that issue has been corrected by now. I'll wait for a few more weeks just to make sure.

Yeppo! I paid the lower fee on Amazon, and got the 2024 passcode which I replaced in my already-downloaded TT Deluxe. I am presuming I'm all set for April 2025 filing!
