Validate error log: What's it telling me, how do I recover?

Hi all:

Because of issues in one of my data files I ran a validate on a copy of the file. An abbreviated version of the validate error log:

---------------------

"QDF: Unknown ErrorUnknown ErrorDamaged index list."

"Unknown ErrorDamaged data block." (76 of those)

"Unknown ErrorUnknown ErrorUnknown ErrorUnknown ErrorUnknown ErrorUnknown ErrorUnknown ErrorUnknown ErrorUnknown ErrorUnknown ErrorUnknown ErrorUnknown ErrorUnknown ErrorUnknown ErrorValidating the QDF file."

"Missing extra info for transaction: "(ACCOUNT NAME)" (DATE) (There were 77 of those, e.g., Missing extra info for transaction: "Scudder" 7/31/1997, Missing extra info for transaction: "Scudder"

6/30/1997)

"QEL: No read errors."

"QEL: All internal consistency checks passed."

---------------------

There were two hidden accounts involved in the "Missing extra info for transaction" errors. Looking at the registers for those two accounts the entries flagged looked to be fine and correct. I did notice, however, that if I clicked on the "edit" button for a register entry flagged as "Missing extra info for transaction" in the log the edit screen came up with the correct action information (e.g., "ReinDiv") but the rest of the screen was blank. Further, if I closed out that blank edit screen and then clicked on the edit button a second time the screen came up completely and properly filled in.

I haven't tried it yet but I'm thinking (hoping) that if I work through all the "Missing extra info for transaction" errors, clicking "edit", closing the resulting blank screen, clicking "edit" again and accepting the transaction again that the data file will be put to rights.

Thoughts? Advice? Commiseration?
