Zero Cost Basis in Portfolio View

Q2010 R3 WIN 7

Frequently after buying a security, the cost basis is shown as zero. Hovering the cursor over the transaction tab while pressing CTRL Z to recalculate works:it also may cause a system crash.

Is there anyway to prevent this cost basis issue to stop altogether?

Thanks

Had you reconciled the cash balance of the account? There was some discussion on Live Community (including someone from Quicken) about a bug during reconcile that could cause this.

Yes,it may be a bug. Does anyone know for sure?

Only Intuit could "know for sure".

But I think (based on what I have read) that there might be a bug infecting reconciles of investment accounts in Q2010 ... though I (and some others) have not been able to reproduce it.

If such a bug exists, I don't know of any way to prevent it from occuring (except to not reconcile Q2010 investment accounts) ... and, as has already been suggested, the known workaround is to recalculate the appropriate Quicken investment account "register".

The fact that you can't reproduce it, is consistent with my experience in that it only happens sometimes. Maybe I'll stop reconciling until v4 comes out. Recalculation is a first class pain.

I had the same problem on new buys. Easy fix for me is just go to the transaction screen, open the buy with the edit button. Then just click the Done button. It fixes itself resetting the cost basis. No pain, no stain...
