Web Connect v. Direct Connect; Q '06 Bugs

Two questions for the group as I think about upgrading from Q '02 to Q '06.

First, most of my banks are on Direct Connect rather than Web Connect under Intuit's OFX software. What's the difference?

Second, what are people's experience with bugs in Q '06 so far? I've had rough experiences with the first releases having all sorts of bugs. My experience has been better when I've waited until the software's been out awhile. Is there somnething to my past experience in this year's release?

Thanks in advance and all that....

Just be warned that Quicken has dropped most support for QIF files, so you may not be able to download from your bank or broker, unless they have paid Intuit a fee. Did not happen with my 2 small credit unions or my broker.

With Direct Connect, as the name implies, Quicken connects to your bank/FI via the One Step Update and downloads the transactions into the appropriate account. Web Connect _requires_ you to connect to your bank/FI first and initiate the download from their web site save the file to your HD and then import it. With Web Connect I think you can select Open instead of Save and the data will be imported into Quicken, but I can't verify if this is true or not.

I can't comment on this as I have not taken the 2006 plunge yet.

It is true that you can select Open instead of Save and the data is imported directly into Quicken. I do this with two banks.

There seem to be some variations on how Web Connect is implemented by the bank. If you have more than one account at a bank, you might have to select an account (via a drop-down menu) and open, select the next and open, etc. One of my banks does it this way and it's a pain. The other has check boxes for each account, and one button executes the request. You next see the usual prompt for Open/Save/Cancel, and when I choose Open, each is opened and transferred into Quicken in succession. I'm using Q4 Deluxe.
