Wells Fargo Update Changes - WARNING!

Wells Fargo sent out a letter dated April 1 saying

"you need to make changes to your software settings before May 31, 2011"

in order to continue using Direct Connect, Bill Payment, etc. The procedure is somewhat involved, requiring many steps and several opportunities for error. What the letter didn't say is that YOU SHOULD NOT MAKE THE CHANGES BEFORE APRIL 1. (This is not an April fool's joke, they completely screwed up). If you do try to update before April 1 (ask me how I know this) you may get duplicate downloads of all your transactions since December 2010, accounts may not switch, and the result is a big mess.

WF is aware of the problem, but hasn't sent out an email via Quicken to tell users to wait until April 1. After wasting an hour trying to get it to work, I called them and they acknowledged the problem. The only easy way out was to restore the backup I had made before trying to update. As a result of their incompetence and the waste of my time, I spoke to a supervisor and demanded a $50 deposit to my checking account as a "customer satisfaction credit", which I received. This is my general attitude towards banks. If we screw up, they ding us for every little mistake - so I ding them for their mistakes.

Lessons:

DO NOT DO THEIR SUGGESTED CHANGES BEFORE APRIL 1.

YOU MUST MAKE A BACKUP OF YOUR FILE BEFORE CHANGING.

IF YOU HAVE HAD PROBLEMS AND WASTED TIME, DEMAND A CREDIT.

Cheers,

Lance
