Why does Quicken insist on filling in Category and Memo info?

Quicken Cash Manager 2008...

After I have downloaded my transactions from the bank, when I click on a downloaded transaction, Quicken tries to guess what the Category and Memo fields should be. It always gets these wrong.

I've tried tweaking the program settings for Quickfill, but all I end up is messing up the ability to type a few characters of the Category and having it automatically guess the rest.

How can I get QCM2K8 to NOT fill Category and Memo but retain the Category typing autofill?

You can't do what you ask: at least not for the category field.

If you have a category assigned to a memorized payee, and that memorized payee name matches the name of a downloaded payee, Quicken will want to put the category for the memorized memorized payee in the downloaded transaction. I can't figure out why you want this both ways.

You can prevent Quicken from putting anything in the memo field for a transaction whose payee matches a memorized payee, by making sure the memorized payee has a blank memo field.

When you have a downloaded transaction selected, it will appear in your Quicken register: at that point, you can modify the fields in the Quicken register, then Accept the downloaded transaction. This should override any quickfill replacements Quicken wants to make.
