will Quicken 2005 or 2006 IMPORT QIF files from 2002?

I now use Quicken preferred 2002 and wonder:

Will Quicken 2005 import all data from 2002?

If I get Quicken 2006 will it do the same?

Which is better? I use it only for home bookkeeping of my finances, nothing on-line.

Don't know what 2002 Preferred is - perhaps a non-US version? If so, I'm not sure the same rules applies to non-US versions. All of the rest I say also only pertains to US versions on the Windows platform.

Also, if you go from one version to the other, it is not necessary to export/import, Quicken will automatically upgrade your data file.

In Quicken 2005, you will be able to import all account types except Banking and Investment accounts. In Quicken 2006, credit card accounts are also blocked from importing.

There are two important exceptions to the above. Firstly you can import checking and credit card accounts into a Cash account and then in one cut/paste operation transfer all the transactions into the proper register.

Secondly, if you export "" from Quicken 2002, you will be able to import that file with the "" option in Quicken

2005/2006.

I was wrong. It is the US version and 2002 Deluxe.

So let me understand this correctly. I would in Quicken2006 not be able to "import, transfer whatever" the transactions I have now under :

CHASE

AMEX

CITICORP

A big question mark behind all 3 above!

I see no way presently in Quicken 2002 to go to any of these accounts and in one swoop " select all, copy and then paste" like one can in most other applications.

How would I do that? I have hundreds of entries in these accounts and certainly do not want to do that individually line by line.

Thanks for your opinions in this area.

In Q2006, I can Open Q2001 files and Q2006 will convert everything including cash, credit card, investments, etc to the Q2006 format. You should do a validate of the file before trying this.

Note I said "Open", not "Import". This does not work if you export Q2001 to QIF and then try to "import the QIF" into 2006. Importing QIF's in Q2006 are subject to the limitations mentioned by the OP below.

My apologies. I was extremely unclear in my prior post. First off, all the FIs you mention offers downloads under Quicken 2006.

I was referring to a particular form of import.export, namely QIF import and export. This has been discontinued. My mistake originated from the fact that you have Quicken 2002, which should not be able to do any other form of downloading since April, 2005.

All current versions of Quicken (2003 and up) support downloads in a format known as QFX that is performed either via direct connect (one-step update) or by downloading a file from the FI's website (web connect).

The feature I referred to only exists in Quicken 2005 and up.
