Worth going from '99 to 2001?

I have Q99 and I am happy with it except for a few features. However, someone has given me an old copy of 2001 Deluxe. I do no online Quicken. Is it worth upgrading to it? I am afraid that a future release may no longer support the old formats.

Any downsides? I remember people complaining in some revisions about ads on their screen.

Thanks for any and all suggestions.

I would say don't bother. If Q99 does what you want, Q01 won't give you any improvements. If you ever decide to upgrade, I would go with the latest version.

All versions have their supporters and detractors. If you really want to know the specific comments about Q01, go to Google and peruse postings to this newsgroup around Aug and Sep of 2000. You'll get a good idea of what the complaints were.

I agree.

At some point of time Q99 would probably become too old to be upgraded DIRECTLY into then current version - that is, without an INTERMEDIATE version, thus making that future upgrade a 2-step process.

However, I am not 100% sure of this, and don't know when that cut-off date is/would be - just a thought.

The Quicken user interface changed radically in 2003. A lot of features work very differently than they did in prior versions. Prior releases from 99 on don't appear much different. If you want to try the 2001 version, I'm pretty sure it will convert your file and the new one will not be backward compatable, but as long as you make a second copy of your file(s) prior to converting, why not give it a try since it was free and Quicken does implement at least some enhancements and fixes in each new release.

If you don'tl ike it you can always uninstall it and re-install your Q99. Since you will still have the copied Q99 file available you will have lost noithing but a bit of time.
