Converting from 2001 to Basic ??

Hi: I am running Quicken 2001 on a Windows 98 system (Pentium 1) and have been running it for years. It works fine.

I am now getting a new computer (Pentium 4, Windows XP + SP2). My old Q 2001 was on 3.5" disks. The new computer has no A drive.

If I buy QUICKEN BASIC and install it on the new computer, will I be able to move my data to the new computer? Would I do that with "backup / restore" or some other method?

Thanks for any assistance,

Jay

What level of Quicken? Basic, Deluxe, ....?

It depends on a number of things. Primarily if you were using features of a higher level (eg. Deluxe) such as 401(k) accounts that are not available in Quicken Basic.

Assuming your old computer has removable media that the new computer can use, eg a CD-Drive, you can either backup/restore your data to the removable media or you can copy the data folder from the old machine to removable media and copy it back on the new machine. If you do the latter, take care that you do not copy the data as read-only as it would be on the CD - you may have to edit th eproperties for each file copied and reset the read-only checkbox.

The disk (and ABOUT QUICKEN) only say "Quicken 2001".

I only use it for checking accounts and reports about checking accounts, such as how much I spent a year on medical, charitable, etc.

Does this help??
