E-filing multiple state taxes

Feb 05, 2007 3 Replies

I lived part of 2006 in Massachusetts and part in New York. I would like to e-file the state returns for both of these, if possible, for free. I already e-filed my federal return. Can someone recommend software that will do this for me? My returns should be extremely straightforward. SD

Part-year resident state returns don't fall into the "extremely straightforward" category, but you can give it a shot. Check the MA and NY websites. I know that some filers can file online through the KS and MD websites. I don't think you're going to find free state software, and I'm not aware of any software that provides for e-filing only the state.

I don't think you're going to find many folks who will only prepare & e-file state returns- especially part year resident situations Not many software programs can prepare part year state returns easily or correctly Expect to override some things. ___________________________________

Thanks for your inputs. I guess I will have to just paper-file my state returns. SD
