Form 1099B Cingular Wireless

Daughter has 34 shares of AT&T Wireless which Cingular gave her $510 (34 shares times $15/shr) and a 1099B for Merger Consideration. She knows what she paid for AT&T Wireless so is it just a matter of reporting what she paid for AT&T Wireless in determining her profit or loss.

Use Schedule D. Put 34 shs AT&T wireless in box 8 (long term). Put date of purchase in (b) box, date of sale in (c) box (will be on the 1099B), $510 in (d) box and her basis (what she paid for the stocks) in the (e) box. (f) box will be the difference, which is probably a (loss). Carry this figure to line 15 and to 16 and to line 13 form 1040. Missy Doyle
