Has anyone received information about the PTIN reapplication yet?

IRS has to wait for comment, and it seems that pushed the date (whenever that will be) beyond mid-September.

An exact date was never promised.

The presenter of an IRS webinar today on e-filing commented something about "next week" during the Q&A portion of the webinar. We'll see.

Why not wait until after Oct 15 (the extension filing deadline)? That way, you can have three full tax seasons covered by the initial registration (assuming the renewal is on the anniversary of the date you apply... not sure about that).

Plus, by then some of the glitches and initial overload will have ameliorated. As I read somewhere, you don't get any brownie points from the IRS for applying immediately. You don't even really need it until probably Feb 1st, 2011, anyway. (Although unenrolled preparers get a

The $50 IRS portion of the fee is a suspiciously round number, kind of like putting down auto mileage of 10,000 on a tax return...

An SPF-enabled mail server received a message from vaftp03.qai.irs.gov (66.77.65.237) that claimed an envelope sender address of TaxPro snipped-for-privacy@irs.gov. However, the domain irs.gov has declared using SPF that it does not send mail through vaftp03.qai.irs.gov (66.77.65.237). That is why the message was rejected.

The IRS finally fixed their PTIN mail server so that their SPF record indicates that the messages with accounts passwords and such are no longer identified as "forged email."

However, it still took them a MONTH (5 weeks) to get around to this....
