Imiweb - what the hell has gone wrong?

Feb 26, 2004 2 Replies

I've been using Imiweb as my online stockbroker for the past two years. There have been occasional hiccoughs but my and large the service has been good and you can't argue with the value on offer.

But, last weekend they performed maintenance work on their system(s). For the fourth day in a row it has been near impossible to connect to their trading website. The main site is fine, where innocent newbies will browse, but as a trader their service has been near non-existent for four days. I tried phoning once and it took them 18 minutes to answer. I used their online "live" help on Tuesday and Wednesday and they can't tell me when normal service will be resumed. It took me 8 minutes to just get logged on this morning and then getting my portfolio displayed was another battle through "server not found" messages. You cannot trade at the right price points if it takes 20 minutes to place a deal and your online trading platform is down!

Does anybody know what the hell is going on at Imiweb and whether they are going to fix these inexcusable errors or back out the hopeless changes? Somebody must know when this is going to get fixed.

I am still getting almost constant problems of "This page cannot be displayed" with IMIWeb. I've phoned to check what's going on and it appears I am the only one with problems. I've been an IMIWeb customer for two years and I haven't done anything at my end to change things. Every other website I use is fine, including those sites using Java, as is my email and newsgroups. I got a new (additional) laptop last week to connect to my network and that is suffering exactly the same problem.

Are there any other IMIWeb customers facing similar problems?

They have not been as quick lately but usually no real problems. Works fine for trading (I went as far as getting a quote) this morning.

Their customer service HAS gone down the pan though - useless. They have recently replied to emails I sent in over a month ago. They got taken over by Halifax recently and that sort of thing usually makes the smarter people jump ship.

They are still the best online broker IMV, able to deal in a huge number of UK and US stocks.
