Last minute deduction timing mess up

My 2015 advalorum tax wasn't due until end of Jan '16 but I paid it early by check on 12/30/15 and my receipt shows that date, My check cleared my bank account on 1/7/16. I now realize I'll need that deduction more in 2016 than 2015. So since my check cleared the bank in 2016, can I choose to take that deduction in 2016? Or am I stuck with taking it in 2015?

Sorry, but if you delivered it to the bank or the US Post Office on December 31, 2015 and there were sufficient funds in the bank to cover the check, it would be deductible in 2015.

Even worse. I delivered it to the Tax Collectors office. And they printed my check number on the receipt. I had hoped that since my bank statement shows that check # as cleared on Jan 7, and I could have stopped payment before then, maybe that would have a bearing on it. But, clearly, the receipt is dated 12/30/15. Oh well.... just thought I'd ask.... thanks.

As both the day of receipt and the day after were bank business days, a constructive receipt argument won't help you here.
