Update timing

My 2011 program keeps nagging me to update so I will continue to receive auto downloads. It expires in April. Now I am getting nag emails. I purchased the physical 2014 upgrade. Should I wait until April before updating to retain the maximum usage of the d/l ability? If I update now, will the program honor April as the cut off date or will it reset the meter to the install date? If I hate 2014, can I remove it & reinstall another version as long as I backup & use the original file?

So download ability of Version 2014 will expire in 2017 regardless of when you I install it.

If you successfully uninstall some version of a product then generally you should be able to install some early version provided you have the requisite materials and your hardware/OS remains compatible. Whether or not you'd be able to update the product would remain to be seen unless you captured the updates in the past in which case you could, presumably, reapply them. In the case of Quicken, of course, the download "sun setting" policy would remain - 2011 would still sunset in 2014 - and, of course, the

2011 Quicken file would have to be used (Q2011 will gag on a Q2014 file whereas Q2014 will upgrade a Q2011 file).

Hi, Scott.

No. Purchase date or install date doesn't matter. The year version controls.

Run Quicken; click Help; on the context menu, click Quicken Support - which will go online to:

formatting link
Or, of course, just click that link to go there directly.

On the Quicken Support page, type "sunset" into the Search box and press Enter to read the "Quicken Discontinuation Policy". It says, "Online services -- like downloading your transactions and balances from your bank, online bill pay, Online Backup, and live support -- are available for the current version and the two prior year versions."

So go ahead and install Q2014 as soon as you like. Support for online services will stop when the 2017 version becomes "the current version". At that time (April 2017?), 2016 and 2015 will be the two prior year versions and 2014 will no longer be supported - no matter when you bought it or installed it. As usual, 2014 will still work after that date: "You can continue to use your Quicken product, however you won't be able to continue using online services and live support."

And maybe, as I did, tell your email provider that the NAG email is SPAM!

But it isn't.

And often, if enough people tell a provider that a particular domain is so-called 'SPAM', then they will cut off the domain for all (I just went through this with AOL for a NPO organizations I assist with).

So if it is THAT bothersome to you (man, you must not have a lot of real issues to worry about), use a local "junk" folder.

See your other replies. I'll just address that last "If I hate

2014..." sentence. If you like 2011, it's highly unlikely that you'll hate 2014. As usual, there are very few differences these days between versions.

But the answer to your question is yes.

there used to be a list of versions & their sunset dates,=20 but I think it's pretty easy with the "April 30th" and + 3 years =3D=3D> = sunset

Ok thanks, I get it now. It must have been a coincident that I originally installed 2011 in April, thus my confusion.

All products "online access" expires on April 30th - 3 years from the version date... ie - version 2011 ---> expires April 30, 2014 regardless of when you bought it, installed it, or first used it - it's hard coded -

And, if you don't like 2014 - and want to continue to use 2011 - it will work fine - BUT - you will of course lose ALL download & online access on April 30,

2014.

One last question (I hope); will I experience any problems dropping from Premium to Deluxe other than Investment limitations?

------------------------------------------------------------------------- Not specifically because you downgraded to a lesser version.

But any conversion can create problems; you'll run the same risks you would for any conversion.

I thought there was a way to get around it so you dont have to purchase the new one? I did it once with quicken 2007... I went into windows explorer > program files > quicken somewhere & changed somethings in one of the fold ers. I just cant remember whatI did!

I guess both of you aren't bothered by your theft of Intuit's intellectual property? If you find Quicken so useful, spent the minimal amount of money to support the company that produces it.

Corporate America/Canada, aside from the companies I happen to own shares in, is such a rip-off that I have absolutely NO moral compunction about obtaining free software, movies, music, etc., however I can.

Obviously. I'd love to make up whatever rules suit me as well.

I hope you don't have any kids. A real good role model.

Well, the rest of the equation is, of course, the willingness to deal with and to ACCEPT whatever the consequences of the above actions.

True freedom is the ABILITY to do whatever one wants to AS. LONG. AS. one is readily willing to accept the "fallout". "if you do the crime, you do the time"!

Bottom line is that I would feel nothing bad "in my gut" for downloading freebies.
