Some financial institutions do not support certain Quicken versions.

But I doubt that is your problem.

Q2009 has been sunsetted since April 2012. When Intuit sunsets a Quicken version (about 3+ years after it is released), the intention is that there will be no more Quicken downloads available for that version; and that there will be no Intuit support for that version.

If you have gotten Q2009 to download successfully after April 2012, consider yourself lucky.

Just to followup on what The Master has said....

Q2009 will work just fine, but the auto online download feature has been turned off by Intuit/Quicken as of April 2012. SO - if you can manually download the activity in the Quicken format from the bank (using their account menu options) I think that Q2009 "might" be able to read/import the downloaded transactions.... never tried it after the sunset date.

Basically - if you want to use and retain the ease of the downloading of banking info, investment quotes, and all other online data, then you will be forced to upgrade every 3 years after each version has reached it's sunset date for online functionality.

Does Quicken give a warning when this auto download ends? Is it based on the activation date, or can I expect this happen to Q 2010 next April?

If you are doing online downloads - you should see a splash screen from Quicken - with the warning...

Basically - the online download features go thru a set of Quicken servers and then on to the financial institution. When things "expire" - Quicken basically turns off their online servers for that specific version.

I don't believe the sunset policy is etched in stone for all time (though it's not based on purchase date); but Intuit has been very consistent so far: sometime toward the end of April, after the product has been available for at least 3 years, the product will sunset.

If you purchase the product when it is first released, you'll get about 3

If I were you, I would plan on Q2010 sunsetting in April 2013 (I use Q2010, and I'm planning on that time frame).
